R+D HIGHLIGHTS: DRAKE MITRAL HOOK

Cardiothoracic surgeons will benefit from the soon-to-be-released and patented, Drake Mitral Hook. Developed to improve chord lysis and division of rheumatic tissue and enhance subvalvular exploration for restrictive tissue, the Drake Hook is unlike any other product on the market. The hook contains a unique cutting groove which helps facilitate more controlled cuts and prevents slippage during cutting. In addition, the hook has a smooth finish without measurement ridges. Ridges on competitor products can catch scalpels during cutting movements, so the Drake Hook uses laser marked measurements rather than ridges. Finally, the hook has a slightly longer tip, which improves exploration and measurements. Thompson Surgical teamed with cardiothoracic surgeon and product designer, Daniel H. Drake, M.D. to develop this new product.
